Matana University and Thomas Jefferson University USA Presents Sustainability Webinar

On May 8, 2024, Matana University and Thomas Jefferson University, United States, collaborated to host a webinar focusing on sustainability. The event provided an insightful platform to discuss the latest trends and strategies in sustainable design for architecture and the built environment. The webinar was led by expert speakers, including Prof. Robert Fryer, the Director, Professor, and Co-Founder of the MS Sustainable Design Program at Thomas Jefferson University, and Prof. Saglinda Roberts, an Assistant Professor in the Masters of Sustainable Design Program at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Ir. Danang Harito, Head of the Architecture study program at Matana University, moderated the webinar. It explored various facets of sustainability in contemporary architectural design.

Participants in the webinar were encouraged to delve into the significance of comprehending Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) in the development of building projects. Furthermore, the concept of passive houses emerged as a pivotal solution for enhancing energy efficiency, garnering substantial attention during the discourse.

Beyond conventional approaches, the webinar ventured into the realm of cutting-edge technologies, particularly the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) and computational design. Attendees were exposed to how these innovative tools could revolutionize the creation of more efficient and environmentally friendly buildings. Additionally, the integration of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology was explored, showcasing their potential in providing immersive and interactive design experiences.

In addressing the pressing challenges posed by climate change, the webinar emphasized resilience and adaptation in architectural design. Adaptive strategies and the sustainable utilization of natural resources emerged as key focal points, underscoring the imperative need for proactive measures to mitigate environmental impacts.

Beyond the technical discourse, the webinar also underscored the paramount importance of prioritizing human health and well-being in building design. Through the integration of holistic and integrated design principles, architects aspire to create environments that not only promote sustainability but also enhance the overall quality of life for inhabitants.

This webinar served as a pivotal platform for professionals and academics alike to deepen their understanding of sustainable design principles. Through collaborative efforts, it is envisioned that this initiative will catalyze greater momentum towards the realization of environmentally conscious and resilient built environments, ultimately paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable future.
